Diabetes Care

The Diabetes Self-Management Education classes offered by Baldwin Area Medical Center are designed to help a person with diabetes better understand and manage the disease.  Input from physicians, nurse educators, dietitians and others trained in diabetes offer the tools, but the person with diabetes does the management of diabetes on a day-by-day basis.  The education classes deal with understanding the process and treatments for diabetes.  Learning about the prevention and control of complications is included.  BAMC’s Diabetes Self-Management Education Program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association.

Evidence is available to support the idea that we can actively prevent diabetes through lifestyle changes.  Being proactive to stop diabetes is one of the healthiest moves one can make. Classes are two hours per session and are run much like a community education class.

Classes for diabetes are offered on an individual or group basis. Diabetes education is an allowed Medicare benefit, and covered on many insurance plans. If you have not taken advantage of this benefit, discuss it with your physician provider
