Holter Monitors

We currently partner with St. Paul Heart Clinic for our Holter monitors.  Holter monitors continuously record your heart rate and rhythm for a full 24 hours.  At your initial appointment, staff will meet with you to explain the monitor and to program it to record.  They will also be placing stickers on your chest with wires that will connect the stickers to the monitor.  The device is lightweight and can be worn on your belt, in a pocket or in a pouch around your neck.

While wearing the monitor, follow these instructions:

  • Don’t take a shower or go swimming – the device needs to stay dry.
  • Follow your normal routine.  Don’t avoid stress, work or exercise.
  • After 24 hours has passed, the monitor will turn itself off at which point you will be able to take the stickers off and place the monitor in a bag that is provided.  This bag can be returned to the front desk of the medical center and Cardiac Rehabilitation staff will transmit the recording to St. Paul Heart Clinic where it will be read by a cardiologist.  Results will be sent to your provider within a week.
