Event Monitors
We currently partner with LifeWatch, Inc. for our event monitors. Event monitors are similar to holter monitors except that they are used for patients who may not have symptoms every day. Most arrhythmias occur infrequently so they are hard to detect during a short office visit. For this reason, many providers will order an event monitor, which is a small, battery powered recorder. Monitors are usually worn for 2-4 weeks. When a patient feels a symptom, they press a button which records their heart rhythm at that time. The recording is transmitted via wireless technology, translated into a rhythm tracing and reviewed by LifeWatch technicians. Results will be sent to your provider within 2 weeks of when the monitor is returned. In the event of an emergency, providers are notified immediately.
